Trevi (Umbria)

Trevi is a little medieval centre, situated between Foligno and
Spoleto at few kilometres from Assisi.
Trevi is very characteristic, for its position on the top of a mountain
in a spiral form. The visitor’s eye is caught by the grace of its position
and by the architectonical structure, so that Leopardi, a famous Italian
writer, wrote about this beautiful place. Among the historical buildings
of Trevi we have to note the Palazzo Comunale (City Hall) with the Torre
Civica (Civic Tower), the former monastery of S. Francis (dated back to
1545) which today has been transformed in a museum including: the Pinacoteca
(Picture Gallery), the Civic Museum, the oil Museum (Trevi produces a very
good quality of olive oil), and the art collection.
Among the religious buildings there’s S. Francis Church of 1288, in which
is guarded a Giotto style wooden crucifix of the XIV century; Saint Emilano
Cathedral and the Franciscan monastery of S. Martino, reachable by the walking
of Via Ciuffelli, with beautiful secular trees. Just outside the walls of
the city, going downhill in the southern part, you’ll encounter the Renaissence
sanctuary of Madonna delle Lacrime. It’s a Latin cross church containing
last work of Perugino and the Adorazione dei Magi dated back to 1521.
An important building is the Teatro Clitunno, in the historical centre of
the town, dating back to the second half of XIX century, were takes places
the Theatre Season.
In Trevi there are some interesting cultural events like the Agosto in Piazza
with classic music concerts, theatre exhibitions and ballets (all open air).
The big event of Trevi is the Ottobre Trevano (October in Trevi) with historical
evocations, the Palio dei Terzieri, the Scene di Vita Medioevale (Medieval
life Scenes) and the Andar per Frantoi (Going for Olive Mills) which anticipates
the production of the new Trevi Olive Oil.
